Congratulations to Dr. Steve Liang — CDL-Rockies Scientist of the Year
We are so glad to share some good news: Dr. Steve Liang, co-director of the UbiSensing & AI Lab, has been named CDL-Rockies Scientist of the Year for the 2025/2026 program year.
CDL-Rockies announced the honor on LinkedIn, thanking Steve for the time, knowledge, and care he brings to ventures and the wider CDL community. For those of us who work with him every day, the recognition feels exactly right.
Steve has long served CDL as a Scientist at CDL-Rockies and CDL-Texas, mentoring ventures in the AgriFood, Energy, and Prime streams. He meets founders where they are — with open geospatial and IoT standards, with SensorUp, and with a gift for helping teams turn messy sensor and location data into something real they can build on.
That same spirit shows up in our lab. He chairs the OGC SensorThings API and EmissionML working groups, keeps our research connected to the world outside the university, and makes room for students alongside founders. He listens carefully, gives honest feedback, and celebrates progress when he sees it. People leave conversations with him clearer than when they walked in — and more confident about the next step.
Congratulations, Steve. We are proud of you, grateful for your leadership, and happy to see the wider CDL-Rockies community say out loud what we already know.
