Welcome to the Lab, Aminreza Abbasi!

Aminreza Abbasi, Research Assistant, UbiSensing & AI Lab

We are thrilled to welcome Aminreza Abbasi to the UbiSensing & AI Lab as a Research Assistant!

Aminreza is an undergraduate Computer Science student at the University of Calgary, pursuing a minor in Data Science. He joins the lab this summer to work on a research project in the area of smart agriculture — a domain where his background and interests are a natural fit.

Aminreza brings hands-on experience developing intelligent monitoring systems for real operational environments, and a strong research foundation in medical imaging and AI for healthcare. His work in this area has explored how machine learning can enable earlier and more accurate understanding of neurological conditions, with an emphasis on models that are both effective and interpretable.

Beyond healthcare AI, Aminreza has made meaningful contributions to agricultural AI, including wheat head detection using computer vision. He has also been involved in entrepreneurial ventures that apply AI and data-driven approaches to livestock management and agricultural decision-making — making him well-positioned to contribute to the lab’s ongoing work in this space.

He joins the team with a research mindset grounded in curiosity, impact, and continuous learning, and we are excited to see what he will bring to the lab.

Welcome, Aminreza — we are glad to have you!
